Cuba: Int'l Activists Meet on Fight to Free the Cuban 5
The 3rd International Youth Solidarity Conference for the Cuban Five ends Monday with four workshops. The Cuban Five are Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero y Rene González, antiterrorist fighters who have been held unjustly in U.S. prisons for almost 13 years.
On Monday, the more than 180 delegates from 33 nations at the conference will debate regional experiences in defense of the Five, and the use of new technology.
An exhibit of cartoons and talks on culture and nation also will be held as part of this conference, a biannual event sponsored by the Union of Communists (UJC).
An interactive forum, Freedom Now, End the Injustice, Release them Now! will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. local time at http://www.foros.cubava.cu.
After a final declaration is issued, the conference will have as its closing a poetry reading, Poets fto Free the Five, and a special concert at the Pabellon Cuba fairgrounds, attended by national literature award winners Miguel Barnet and Nancy Morejon.
