Cuba, Guinea vow to boost ties

Cuba and Guinea vowed to work hard to strengthen their bilateral ties, during a Monday meeting in Havana between their foreign ministers.

"We want to relaunch bilateral cooperation at the next talks, because we have a long road to travel, and we want to do it with the friends we already know," said Guinean Foreign Minister Francois Lounceny Fall, who arrived to Cuba on Sunday for a six-day official visit.

He stressed the relaunching of a bilateral exchange mechanism signed in 1991 and appreciated Cuba's support for training his country's personnel in diverse fields, especially healthcare and education, since the beginning of their bilateral cooperation in 1967.

For his part, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez expressed the gratitude of the Cuban government and people for the permanent support that Africa, especially Guinea, has shown in condemning the U.S. economic blockade against the island country at international forums.

He praised the two nations' long-running bilateral relations, saying that strengthening relations with Africa will remain a priority for Havana during Cuba's presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

Cuba and Guinea established diplomatic ties in 1960.
