Cuba has added another cargo ship, named Haydee, to its merchant fleet, the seventh delivered by China to that Caribbean nation, as part of a deal for 10 bulk cargo vessels contracted at the Shanghai shipyards.

Information provided by the Cuban Consul in Shanghai, Ariel Lorenzo, said that the delivery ceremony took place at the company's facilities at Chongming Island, attended by the the vice president of the shipyards, Wang Qi. He highlighted the historic friendship and cooperation between both countries.

Wang also stressed the Shanghai shipyard's commitment to the quality of those ships and their delivery, to be completed by mid-year.

For his part, Lorenzo spoke of the priority Cuba places on this shipbuilding project in China, saying that this new ship bearing the name of Haideé, is a tribute to the late Haydee Santamaria, a relentless fighter and hero of his nation.

Representatives of Chinese companies implementing the project, maritime business leaders, the group of engineers and technicians who oversee the construction process of the vessels and part of the crew, among others, attended the launch of the ship.
