Brazilian President Visits Russia
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is beginning on Thursday an official visit to Russia, where he will meet his peer Dmitri Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to sign bilateral agreements.
Lula da Silva will place a wreath by the Unknown Soldier monument at the Kremlin's walls in the framework of the 65th anniversary of the Victory over fascism during World War II.
The Brazilian leader, who already met Medvedev in the BRIC format (Brazil, Russia, China and India) back in Brazil in April, will attend a meeting with businessmen at the Ritz Carlton Hotel.
They will also hold official meetings later to deal with the use of the national currencies (ruble and Brazilian real) in the bilateral trade, the strategic cooperation agreement and increase of the technological collaboration.
Both sides will refer to the means to diversify economy, the measures to tackle the consequences of the world economic crisis, the reform of the UN Security Council and coordination of stances regarding international policy.
These countries will sign agreements as an inter-governmental accord on the defense of intellectual rights in the technical-military sphere that refers to a program of scientific-technical cooperation, and another about information security.
Russia will be the first phase of a five-country tour that Brazilian president will make.
After this visit to Moscow, Lula will travel to Doha, Qatar.
