Botswana's President Seretse Khama Ian Khama will lay a wreath at the African Independence Heroes Park in this capital, to honor his father Seretse Khama, his country's first statesman, deceased in 1980.

The Botswanan statesman, who is officially visiting Cuba, arrived in this nation Monday, on an invitation in which he talked with his peer Raul Castro.

The African visitor and his accompanying were welcomed at the Havana's Jose Marti international airport by Deputy Foreign Minister Marcos Rodriguez.

Khama Ian Khama also laid a wreath at the statue erected to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti at the capital's Revolution Square.

During his three-day stay in the island, the visitor will pay tribute to Cuban internationalists fallen in combat for the liberation of Africa, and sign accords with this country at the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Khama was appointed Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, and designated as vice president on April 3, 1998.

Five years later, Khama was elected executive president of the governmental Democratic Party of Botswana, and took office in 2009.
