Bolivia for Wind Energy Projects

he Bolivian government is looking for $50 million dollars in international cooperation to develop two wind energy projects for electricity generation.

According to Deputy Minister of Electricity and Alternative Energy Miguel Yague, who was quoted by Cambio daily on Sunday, one of those projects will be carried out in the district of Viru Viru, Santa Cruz, since the studies showed that the area has tremendous wind energy potential.

He said that the government has reached preliminary agreements with the government of Germany to implement the energy plans.

The National Electricity Enterprise (ENDE) has already advanced on the design of the pilot projects in La Paz and it expects to have the final wind model (wind-driven generator) by the end of the current year.

ENDE estimates that the generation capacity would be of five megawatts, which will demand a multi-million investment taking into account that generating a megawatt by wind energy has an estimated cost of $2.5 million dollars.
