Belgian Adviser Meets Two Cuban 5 Wives

Marc Tysebaert, general adviser on Rights and Freedoms of the Belgian Justice Ministry, met Wednesday with two wives of five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters unfairly imprisoned in the USA.

Tysebaert talked to Olga Salanueva and Adriana Perez, spouses of Rene Gonzalez and Gerardo Hernandez, who, together with Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez and Antonio Guerrero, are currently serving harsh sentences in jails of that northern country,

Salanueva and Perez updated details in the case of the Five, as they are universally known, especially the re-sentencing hearing to three of them, one of which, Guerrero received a lesser sentence.

The new sentence to Guerrero of almost 22 years, instead of life imprisonment plus 10 years, is the result of the international solidarity and the defense team's tenacious effort, Cubadebate website reported on Tuesday.

Sentences by Labanino and Fernando Gonzalez will be also reviewed in the upcoming days.

Rene and Gerardo's wives also denounced once more the injustice committed when US authorities denied them visas, so that they can visit their husbands in jail.

The meeting with the Belgium official also denounced the political trial against the Five, legal vices, and repeated violations of US legislation in their files.
