Nearly one hundred experts will discuss in this capital the challenges of informatization of Cuban agriculture as an urgent need for sustainable development, according to an official source.
 
President of the Organizing Committee of the 5th Meeting of the Informatics and Communication Business (Eicma), of the Ministry of Agriculture (Minag), Pedro Arquimides Padilla, told Prensa Latina that over 50 papers will be discussed and eight workshops will be held as psrt of this meeting to be held Apr. 26-29 to contribute to the incorporation of the use of information and communications technologies (ICT) in the sector.
 
Four commissions will be in session to discuss 26 papers about software applied to agricultural activities, including a dozen of them linked to education, eight related to innovation and seven about geospatial data.
 
Eight workshops will be held about business integration into the sector, geomatics in agriculture, projects and tools in executive management, new proposal of the Versat-Sarasola accounting management system, cybersecurity, automatics and the use of drones in agriculture.
 
Padilla added that this meeting is expected to have a higher turnout of universities, institutions and entities related to informatics and communications in agriculture, including companies, cooperatives and other productive organizations.
 
He reiterated that the slogan of the meeting is "Informatization of agriculture, an urgent need for sustainable development," and the objective is to bring science and innovation closer to productive activities and increase crop yield in a sector of high priority in Cuba to achieve food sovereignty, increase exports and reduce imports.
 
The meeting will include the inauguration of an exhibit involving firms and institutions that produce and supply information and communications technologies.
