African students pursuing higher studies in Cuba have condemned the economic, commercial and financial blockade applied by the United States against the island for more than 50 years and which continues today.
 
During the 8th edition of the International Brigade of Student in Solidarity, about 100 students from more than 20 countries stated that policy is a vestige of the Cold War. It does not correspond to the will of both countries to reach a normalization of their relationship.
 
From the 'Julio Antonio Mella' International Camp at the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), located in the western province of Artemisa, the young people said that they would maintain their activism against the blockade and would not stop until it has been completely eliminated.
 
The camp has been the venue of brigade meetings since its beginning more than seven years ago.
 
The students also demanded the end of Washington's illegal occupation of a portion of the eastern province of Guantanamo, where a naval base is located against the will of the people and government of the Caribbean island.
 
The 8th International Brigade of Students in Solidarity with Cuba is dedicated to the figure of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, on occasion of his 90th birthday, on August 13th.
 
During this period, students will pay tribute to Cuban National Hero, Jose Marti and visit historical sites, hold meetings with leaders from Cuban youth organizations, as well as with Palestinian and Saharawi people, to order to become familiar with the struggle the two countries are carrying out for independence and sovereignty.
