Honduran President, Juan Orlando Hernandez, is today concluding an official visit to Cuba, where he shared with his peer, Raul Castro, the need to deepen bilateral ties between the two nations.
The distinguished visitor expects to participate early today in a race called 'Hondura Activa', which will be held at the Jose Marti's Revolution Square and the emblematic Hotel Nacional de Cuba.
Army Raúl Castro Ruz, President of Cuba's Councils of State and Ministers, received the honorable Peter Charles Paire O'Neill, Prime Minister of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, who is making an official visit to the country.
The two leaders reaffirmed the positive state of bilateral relations in a cordial environment, and discussed the potential for developing cooperation, particularly in the area of healthcare and sports. They also discussed issues on the international agenda, such as the effects of climate change.
Cuba and South Africa have signed a cooperation agreement in Basic Education, joining to the existing ones in health, water resources, human settlements and professional training on the island.
The current agreement expects, among other objectives, to share the experiences of the Caribbean nation in teaching mathematics and science to strengthen the training in the South African public education system.
The document was signed by South African Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga, and Cuban ambassador, Carlos Fernandez de Cossio.

Incidentally, I might add that in our country we have developed a system to teach reading and writing over the radio. This system is being tested in the Republic of Haiti where it began with 300 people and the results have been spectacular. It is now being extended to 3000 people and they are working now on its extension to the whole country. We developed it in Creole, that is the language of the Haitians. The results are truly hopeful. This being the case, there would be great possibilities of reducing the number of illiterates with a minimum of resources, really a minimum. A central station simply broadcasts that knowledge.
