Speech by Commander-In-Chief Fidel Castro on his arrival in Havana on 8 January 1959

I think this is a turning point in our history: tyranny has been overthrown. The joy is immense. And yet, much remains to be done. We are not deceived into believing that everything will be easy in the future; Maybe in the future everything will be more difficult. To say the truth is the first duty of every revolutionary. To deceive the people, to arouse deceiving delusions, would always bring the worst consequences, and I believe that the people must be alerted against the excess of optimism.

Defending the future

Dedicated to the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, the 42nd National Youth Seminar on José Martí Studies is taking place in Camagüey, with some 100 children, adolescents, and youth from most of the country's provinces in attendance.
 
Running through January 21, the city's major cultural institutions are welcoming this new wave of scholars investigating the life and work of the national hero, through research projects, as well as artistic and literary works.
 

Fidel’s infinite confidence in victory

La Plata, Guamá, Santiago de Cuba.– Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro Ruz’s strategic vision and infinite confidence in victory, were highlighted during the ceremony marking the 60th anniversary of the attack on the La Plata Garrison, in an act held at the site of the Rebel Army’s first victory and presided by Comandantes of the Revolution and decorated heroes of the Republic of Cuba Ramiro Valdés Menéndez and Guillermo García Frías.
 

Tributes to Fidel as part of Cuban Science Day celebrations

Various activities were held on the occasion of Cuban Science Day in Villa Clara, the province chosen to host this year’s national celebrations given its results in the field. The event featured a heartfelt tribute to Fidel, the father of Cuban scientific development.
 

Fidel the Guerrilla in 2015 –16 and Beyond

During Obama’s historic visit to Cuba on March 20–23, 2016, I was commentating on the event with Cuban colleagues for the Caracas-based teleSUR television network. On the Cuban side, the event was overshadowed by Cuban diplomacy skillfully led, in a complex situation, by President Raúl Castro and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Actor Danny Glover pays tribute to Fidel and Martí

A great moment in his life, is how U.S. actor and activist Danny Glover described the tribute he paid to Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro Ruz, and Cuba’s National Hero José Martí, at the Santa Ifigenia Cemetary located in this city, the last stop on his trip across several of the island’s provinces.
 
After attending the solemn and respectful changing of the guard of honor, the activist and friend of Cuba, visibly moved, laid a floral wreath and observed a minute of silence before the plaque which holds Fidel’s ashes.

Gratitude honored

They traveled to Africa to fight the fiercest of battles against death. The mere name of the enemy was frightening: Ebola. They did not relent and they triumphed. They went armed with nothing more than the commitment of those who would give up their own lives in the effort to save others.
 

Cuba's Caravan of Freedom, History with New Meanings

In January 1959, the Cuban people took to the streets nationwide to welcome the Caravan of Freedom, which has a new connotation today for Cubans, after the inverse journey undertaken by the caravan that carried the ashes of Fidel Castro.
 
If at the time Cubans celebrated the triumph of the Revolution in every corner of the country, a few weeks ago, they professed the love and respect that Fidel Castro earned.
 
After Dictator Fulgencio Batista (1952-1959) fled 57 years ago, the guerrilla leader started his trip to the capital.
 

Frank Fernandez Dedicates Piano Concert to Fidel

Pianist Frank Fernández will offer a concert in this capital today to honor the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, who died on November 25.
 
With a set of his own works and other pieces originating in the country, the musician also wishes to recall the entrance to Havana of the so-called Caravan of Freedom, headed by Fidel in 1959.
 

Caribbean Countries Congratulate Cuba for Revolution Anniversary

Leaders of various Caribbean countries sent congratulation messages to their Cuban counterpart, Raul Castro in occasion of the 58 Anniversary of the Revolution, reported diplomatic sources today.
 
In a letter sent to the Cuban President, Grenada Prime Minister Keith Mitchell highlighted the 37 years of relations between the two nations, based on mutual trust and respect, according to the official website of the Cuban Foreign Ministry.
