Cuban medical brigade returns home after fighting Covid-19 in Mexico

The brigade of Cuba's Henry Reeve international contingent of doctors who collaborated in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic in Quintana Roo, Mexico, returned home on Saturday after five months in that country.

Upon arriving at the Jose Marti International Airport in Havana, all seven members of the group were welcomed virtually by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, who expressed the gratitude of the Cuban Government and people.

Marrero updated the brigade members about the epidemiological situation in Cuba, the actions taken to control the epidemic and the strategy to counter the impact of the resulting global crisis, which in Cuba's case is more complex due to the tightening of the US blockade.

Brigade Chief Lirina Perpiñan told reporters about the work done by the multidisciplinary team of young experts who treated the most complex cases of the disease in the Intensive Care Units of the General Hospital in Quintana Roo.

Our doctors immediately earned the respect and appreciation of their Mexican colleagues, said Perpignan, who highlighted that they treated 6,213 Covid-19 patients and saved 6,130 lives during their mission.
