President Diaz-Canel evokes Cuba's cry of independence
President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Wednesday recalled the resumption of the war for independence in Cuba 126 years ago, and described February 24 as a 'day to say and sing history'.
On his Twitter account, the president recalled the words of Cuban National Hero Jose Marti.
Diaz-Canel highlighted the spirit of patriotism in other tweets related to the date.
He ratified the validity of Marti's phrase in relation to Cuban patriot Juan Gualberto Gomez before the uprising on February 24, 1895, when he said, 'We will conquer all justice.'
The 'War of '95' or the 'Necessary War' was organized by Jose Marti from abroad as he was exiled, in order to achieve Cuba's final independence from Spain.
The date marked the beginning of a new stage in the struggle, also led by veteran combatants Maximo Gomez and Antonio Maceo, following Jose Marti's death in combat.
