Cubans in Europe convene forum to support their homeland

Associations of Cubans residing in various European countries launched on Saturday a call to hold a virtual meeting on October 24 in support of their homeland and its fight against the US blockade and other aggressions.

The meeting's call takes place in a context marked by the tightening of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba for 60 years, the escalation in the use of social networks to attack the Cuban Revolution and the Covid-19 crisis, to which the country stands out for its international solidarity.

The call through websites and social networks consists of a political-cultural initiative, which includes statements by Cubans living in the old continent and a tribute to the culture and idiosyncrasy of the Caribbean nation.

In dialogue with Prensa Latina, representatives of organizations scattered across Europe agreed on the importance of holding the virtual forum, in order to reiterate the condemnation of the US blockade, support Cuban healthcare professionals fighting against the pandemic in Cuba and around the world, and share experiences.

'We chose October 10, a homeland historic date for the launch because we do not want it to be overlooked and because it will be a cry of independence from Cubans in Europe to reject counterrevolutionaries and those who only use social networks to attack Cuba,' explained the president of the Association of Cuban Residents in Germany, Jose Conde.

According to one of the meeting's organizers, along with the repudiation of the blockade, participants will accompany the request to award the Nobel Peace Prize to the Henry Reeve medical brigades, scattered around the planet to fight against Covid-19.
