Barbados Health Minister Jeffrey Bostic thanked Cuba for sending a nursing brigade made up of 95 women and six men to support the fight against the novel SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
 
The Cuban team will provide a much-needed relief to local physicians who have been treating patients with the disease caused by the coronavirus, and working exhausting hours in the most demanding circumstances, Bostic said on Sunday.
 
Through a videoconference, he updated the behavior of the pandemic in this country, that in March, Bridgetown signed an agreement with Havana to obtain the Cuban medicine Recombinant Human Interferon Alfa 2B, to treat severe coronavirus patients.
 
The health minister also praised local physicians for their sacrifice and urged Barbadians to support the protocols to curb the spread of infections and thus reduce pressure on the health system.
 
Bostic informed on Sunday the death of the first patient in the country due to coronavirus and stated that four other cases were confirmed, totaling 56, mostly have mild to moderate disease.
