Uruguayan President in Cuba to Attend CELAC Summit

The Uruguayan President, Jose Mujica arrived today in this capital to attend the 2nd Summit of the Community of Latin American And Caribbean States (CELAC), to be held here on Tuesday and Wednesday.

A humble hug to the people of Cuba on behalf of our small country, said the head of state in statements to the press at the International Airport Jose Marti.

We have been beating with the vicissitudes of this people. Thanks for the hospitality, said Mujica.

Several dignitaries arrived already in Havana for the Summit, among them presidents of Argentina, Guyana, Venezuela, Haiti, Brazil, Bolivia and the prime minister of Jamaica.

The decision to create CELAC was taken in the Unity Summit, held in Cancun, Mexico, in 2010, but it was in its first meeting in Caracas, on December 2 and 3, 2011 when it was founded.
