Antonio Guerrero Sends Message to Cuban Youth
Antonio Guerrero, one of the five Cubans arrested in 1998 in the United States, sent a letter to young people gathered in this city, some of whom he described as a life force of the present and the future of the Revolution.
The letter was read to more than 200 young Cubans and guests from Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica and Kenya attending the Youth Symposium for the cause of the Cuban Five, as Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene González are internationally known.
René Gonzales is the only one who has returned to Cuba so far after serving 13 years in prison and an additional punishment of supervised release in the United States.
Guerrero notes that "nearly 23 years away from the country, 15 of them under unjust confinement in U.S. prisons have failed to separate us from our people, because its beat is the beat of our hearts."
In the message to the young people gathered in Camagüey, located more than 570 kilometers east of Havana, Guerrero states that he has been in the correct position, supported on the thought of José Martí (Cuba's national hero).
The letter also evokes Martí's thought that "the real man does not look for a more comfortable life, but that where the duty lies, "which in the opinion of Guerrero "embodies the new man that Che (Ernesto Guevara ) from which talk and exemplify us."
He expresses confidence that young people "will know defend our independence and socialism at any cost."
According to Guerrero, this key principle is achieved "fulfilling the duty every day without looking only to the side you live better. You have to do fight badly things fighting in the precise form and timing. This must be done with thoroughness and giving good example. "
Guerrero shows the assurance that they will not rest until "we see us back to our country, but I say that what makes us stronger, the time we have to resist the closure, is that you fulfill your duties and that you will not fail our history and our people. "
