America Is Following Marti's Path, Ecuadorian Intellectual Says
Our America is taking the necessary steps to follow the trail of Jose Marti, which is more effective every day, said Raul Perez Torres, prominent intellectual and president of the "Benjamin Carrion" Cultural Center.
After 160 years we are still indebted to him, a debt of freedom and honor, said the writer of more than 22 books on short stories, novels, essays, anthologies, and poetry, in an exclusive interview with Prensa Latina in this capital.
Our America is just beginning and is taking the necessary steps to follow in his footsteps, he said.
Marti and Alfaro are the clearest examples not only of courage, loyalty, patriotism, internationalism, but also that internationalism that left his blood on the battlefields and dignified our anti-imperialist and anti-colonialist struggle, Perez said.
Marti's philosophy was "thinking in action" and his ideas have far more significance and clarity in the present day. Until we have fulfilled the mission he entrusted to us, we will always be indebted to him, he said.
Marti is increasingly present, because the American revolutionary integration that he dreamed of is closer every day, Perez said when highlighting the importance of the upcoming Third International Conference in Havana, "For World Equilibrium."
The Third Conference will coincide with the 160th anniversary of the birth of Jose Marti on January 28, where representatives of more than 30 countries, including Ecuador will highlight the relevance of Marti's thought.
This is an important historical moment not only in Ecuador, but also in Latin America, said Perez, to whom what happens in many Latin American countries is an example of the new face Marti, the Cuban national hero, said of Our America.
This is a historically important moment not only in Ecuador but in Latin America, said Perez, who sees the changes underway in various Latin American countries as an example of the new face of Martí, Cuba's national hero, the face of Our America.
