Cuban Youth Convenes Conference for Cuban Five

The Young Communist League (UJC) convened today the 4th International Youth Conference of Solidarity with the five anti-terrorist Cuban fighters unfairly held in the United States. These men were arrested in 1998 for monitoring extremist anti-Cuban groups in Florida responsible for terrorist actions perpetrated in Cuba since 1959.

On behalf of the student and youth movements, the UJC extended its call to the world youth to defend the truth from this capital on April 28-May 2, 2013, and demand justice for their case, silenced and manipulated along 14 years by "mainstream media".

The objective is is to address moral values and pillars for humanity like patriotism, internationalism, dignity and sacrifice.

Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero and Gerardo Hernandez, were given -as the world solidarity has confirmed- abusive, harsh sentences, being the worst a double life sentence plus 15 years for leading a peaceful fight for life against terrorism, reminds the invitation.

Known through the world campaign as the Cuban Five, four of these Cuban men remain behind bars while Rene still serves an additional punishment of three years under supervised release in US territory despite demands for his immediate return to Cuba.

Therefore, this call addresses good-will people to help break the media blockade the US power circles try to force on the global public opinion and denounce at every space the manipulated and biased trial against The Cuban Five, adds the text.

In September, 1998, Miami FBI agents arrested the Cuban Five and sent them to isolation for 17 months before sending their case to court. After pinning slated charges as conspiracy to commit espionage, the US Justice failed to submit a single piece of incriminating hard evidence.

At the recently concluded 3rd Encounter of the Network of Universities in Solidarity with the Cuban Five, on October 5th and 6th, the more than 400 nationals and foreigners studying in Cuba urged for their release and exposed actions by radical groups operating against Cuba with total impunity.

The over 50-year violent plans and operations are responsible for more than 3,000 deaths and more than 2,000 physically impaired, both in Cuba and abroad, including the United States.
