Paraguayans Back Cuban 5
The Paraguayan Coordinating Committee of Solidarity with Cuba convened a meeting on Wednesday to support the Cuban Five, unjustly imprisoned in 1998 in US jails for fighting terrorism.
A press release from the group says the meeting is taking place at the Faculty of Philosophy of the National University of Asuncion, and it will inform participants about the civil and human rights violations committed by the US justice system against the Five.
Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez are currently serving harsh and unjust sentences after a manipulated trial full of irregularities, held in Miami, Florida.
The Five Heroes, as they are known by Cuban people, infiltrated terrorist organizations in Florida that were acting with total impunity against Cuba, and they alerted their country's authorities of criminal actions.
The Paraguayan Coordinating Committee of Solidarity with Cuba and the Paraguayan Committee to Free the Cuban Five state that Gerardo Hernandez' defense team expects to present a habeas corpus petition to reconsider his case.
