Portuguese Group Asks for Support to Solidarity with Cuba

The Jose Marti Association (APJM) demanded on Saturday that the Portuguese government favored greater interaction with the civil society in that country that supports Cuba, victim of an unprecedented media discredit campaign organized in Europe.

The deamand for support to Cuba was presented by APJM President Celino Cunha Vieira in a meeting with members of the parliamentary group of the governing Portuguese Socialist Party (PS).

The meeting was held at the Assembly of the Republic of Portugal (Parliament) headquarters, with attendance of deputies Maria de Belem, vicepresident of the legislative group, and Paulo Pisco, head of the SP International Relation Department.

The APJM highlighted that it is important that Portuguese Legislature and Executive take the points of view of the local solidarity organizations in favour of Cuba into account, when discussing any issue relatted to the Caribbean island.

Vieira highlighted the many examples of support to the Cuban Revolution in the world and the willingness of his group to exchange information with the authorities of this European nation. He invited PS leaders to take part in the colloquiums and other initiatives about Cuba by the solidary movement.

The recognition of Cuba in Portugal, the US hostile policy towards Cuba, the role of Europe and the slanders repeated in relation to supposed political prisoners were also a points in the agenda.
