Cuba Marks World Health Day

Cuba is celebrating on Wednesday the World Health Day with a series of activities, aimed at highlighting this date, dedicated this year to town planning and healthy lives.

Lea Guido, representative from the Pan-American Health Organization and the World Health Organization in the island, called people to focus sanity in urban policies and the nation's all agendas.

The expert told press on Tuesday about the importance of turning cities into healthier sites.

City life has a cost for health, people reduce physical activity, and consume more processed food high in calories.

It also increase the influence of environmental pollution, epidemiological risks, as well as social and domestic violence, traffic injuries and accidents, pandemics, and natural disasters.

All countries worldwide will be affected for this problem, so, health, state and governmental authorities, as well as people in general should find a solution to this situation.

"Cuba has established mechanisms to develop projects and initiatives aimed at detecting situations and formulating appropriate responses," Guido noted.

"We saw it with the control to the A(H1N1) flu pandemic. As all necessary forces moved, the country could reduce infection through the implementation of preventive devices," she said.
