Cuba: Vice President Welcomes Summit Delegates

Cuban Vice President Jose Ramon Machado Ventura welcomed the Cuban delegation that participated in the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Juventud Rebelde daily reported on Sunday.

The leader, along with Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Marcelino Medina, welcomed Vice President Esteban Lazo Hernandez, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodriguez and other officials.

Lazo and Rodriguez developed a broad agenda during the meeting and defended the stance of Cuba and the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our America so that rich nations assume commitments to reduce harmful effects on nature.

The stance of Cuba and other Third World countries received numerous signs of support from non-government environmental organizations.

Those groups criticized the attitude of the most powerful countries and the hypocrisy showed regarding the need of setting more reasonable and fair goals to protect the planet.
