Syria Proves Growing Solidarity with Cuba
Cuba increasingly extends its world relations and its example is impossible to be kept quiet, Cuban official Kenia Serrano said on Saturday while she assessed a meeting of support and solidarity towards the Island in the Middle East.
Serrano, who chairs the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), expressed her satisfaction to Prensa Latina for the first regional meeting of solidarity with Cuba, which drew more than one hundred participants from Iran and 11 Arab countries for two days.
Before she left Damascus, she stressed that close ties between her country's government and Syria made possible the meeting, where the US economic blockade was strongly condemned.
Besides decrying the US economic blockade against the Island, participants demanded the release of The Five anti-terrorist Cuban fighters held in US prisons for 11 years for preventing terrorist attacks against Cuba and also recognized the Island's historic support to the Arab people.
In SerranoâÖs opinion, the meeting in Damascus proved that there are friends and solidarity with Cuba worldwide, and this the result of the firm stand and internationalism sustained by the Island in defending just causes.
The ICAP director said the most important proposal of the meeting is to continue these meetings and announced that "we will have another such gathering in two years".
She stressed that the solidarity movement in that region is a good sign thatindicates that more than one is thinking about that.
