Cuba, Deputy Chair of UN Committee on Palestine

Cuban Permanent Representative to the UN, Pedro Nunez Mosquera, was elected unanimously on Thursday as deputy chair of the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.

Thanking UN members for this election, the Cuban diplomat said it was a sign of confidence and recognition of his country's clear, firm, determined and permanent stand in defense of the Palestinian people.

Nunez Mosquera denounced the plight of the Palestinian people in their struggle to defend their rights and the increasing Israeli actions against their legitimate aspirations.

The election of Cuba was part of activities of the 64th ordinary period of sessions of the UN General Assembly started on Tuesday.

The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People was established in November 1975 under the Resolution 3376 (XXX) of the UN General Assembly.

It is chaired by Senegal and co-chaired also by Afghanistan, with Malta as Rapporteur.
