Dialogue

Fidel

Oil on canvas, inspired by the image of Fidel.

Fidel

Oil on canvas, dedicated by the artist to Fidel, on his 35th birthday. The Commander in Chief met Oswaldo Guayasamín (1919-1999) in May of 1961 when the painter travelled to Cuba to take part in the International Labour Day celebrations.  Fidel posed for the painter on four occasions: 1961, 1981, 1986 y 1996.

The cynical danse macabre

The genie has escaped from the bottle and NATO doesn’t know how to control it.They are going to attempt to wrest the most benefits from the regrettable events in Libya.  Nobody can know at this moment what is happening over there. All the figures and versions, even the most implausible ones, have been spread by the empire via the mass media, sowing chaos and disinformation.

The NATO plan is to occupy Libya

One has to wait the necessary length of time in order to learn precisely what is the truth and what are lies, or a mixture of events of every kind that, in the midst of chaos, were produced in Libya.  For me, what is absolutely clear is that the government of the United States is not in the least worried about peace in Libya and it will not hesitate in giving NATO the order to invade that rich country, perhaps in a matter of hours or a few short days.

MUBARAK’S FATE IS SEALED

Mubarak’s fate is sealed, not even the support of the United States will be able to save his government. The people of Egypt are an intelligent people with a glorious history who left their mark on civilization. “From the top of these pyramids, 40 centuries of history are looking down upon us,” Bonaparte once said in a moment of exaltation when the revolution brought him to this extraordinary crossroads of civilizations.

THE SERIOUS FOOD CRISIS

The current world order was imposed by the United States at the end of WWII and reserved all the privileges for itself. Obama has no way to manage the madhouse that they have created. A few days ago, the government crumbled in Tunisia, where the United States had imposed neoliberalism and they were happy for such political exploit.  The term democracy had disappeared from the scene.

The state of the union

After his January 12 address at the University of Tucson, Arizona, on the massacre that had took place four days earlier, people awaited with interest for the US president’s speech on the same topic. Six people died and fourteen were injured, including young Democratic congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who was elected to the United States Congress for the third time and had been opposed to the anti-immigration law in Arizona, a state that was part of the territory snatched from Mexico in the unjust war of 1848.

THE TIME HAS COME TO DO SOMETHING

If the millions of tons of soy and corn being invested into bio-fuels are routed towards the production of foods, the unusual rise in prices would cease and the world`s scientists would be able to propose formulae that might in some way or other halt and even reverse the situation.  We have lost too much time.  The time has come to do something now.

OBAMA’S SPEECH IN ARIZONA

Yesterday I listened to him when he spoke at the University of Tucson where homage was being paid to the 6 people murdered and the 14 wounded in the Arizona massacre, especially the Democratic congresswoman for that state, seriously wounded by a gunshot to the head(...)Of course, Obama’s speech was lacking the moral condemnation of the policies which inspired such an act.
