An intimate, human, natural and pensive Fidel Castro is shown in the exhibition “The Face of History” by Italian painter Franco Azzinari and Cuban photographer Alex Castro, on display in the ALBA Cultural Center.

Portrait of Fidel on the occasion of his 85th birthday drawn by Fariñas and accompanied by his poem “Luminaria”. Spring advances within the winter’s guts/ until it breaks free from the maze /and goes through the bright lights/ Finally, the verb has found its origin/ Faith boils intact in the bottom of the milk jars/ and the incense again seeks its route to the domes.

It is part of an exhibition of Chinese painting and calligraphies on display at the Lotus Tong Bao Exhibition Center in Beijing as part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution. This portrait of Fidel, together with those of others Cuban leaders such as Che Guevara, are the main pieces in the 129-piece exhibition of works made by 70 artists and calligraphers.
