Venezuela is fulfilling today a tight agenda of activities and cultural celebrations to commemorate the 160th birthday anniversary of Cuban National Hero Jose Marti, who visited this country 132 years ago.
As part of the program boosted by the Venezuelan National Library and the attached entity Jose Marti Our America House, there are activities currently developing, as the painting exhibition Form and Essence, with 35 works by Venezuelan and Cuban artists.
To the institution's Director Zaida Castro, the exhibition is a proof of how the artists, "by means of their paintbrushes expressed the way in which the Cuban leader saw the world and especially Latin America," she said.
Likewise, the book The Urgent path of the ALBA was launched, an assessment of the ideological and political grounds of that regional organization (Bolivarian Alliance for the People of Our America), through the content of the correspondence between the Cuban Revolutionary leader Fidel Castro and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
According to the director of Jose Marti Our America House, the title of the work "shows what unity and the ALBA creation mean and also compiles a series of interviews to the main beneficiaries of the social missions implemented by the Venezuelan government."
There will be other activities from Sunday, January 20-27, including a march from the square Jose Marti in Altagracia, the opening of the exhibition Venezuela paints Marti, a recital by Cuban artists, a conversational meeting, presentation of the book "Poets Singing to Marti" and others.
On January 28, the day on which the Cuban hero was born, Venezuelan Culture Minister Pedro Calzadilla and Cuban Ambassador to Venezuela Rogelio Polanco will preside over the homage at Altagracia parish in Caracas.
Known as the most universal of all Cubans, Jose Marti fell in combat on May 19, 1895, during the war of independence against Spain, but he left to posterity his pro-independence, anti-imperialist and pro-Latin America thinking, which has great validity in the current context of regional integration.
