The 60th anniversary of the attack on the Moncada Garrison will be a reason for a Cuba-Cuauhtemoc cultural day starting today through July 27 in Colonia Roma in Mexico City.
Painting, photos, music, film, and talks on Cuba-Mexico ties, the universal health care system existing in that Caribbean island are part of the program.
Particularly, there will be a lecture on the occasion of the 210th birthday of Cuban poet Jose Maria Heredia, to whom this day is also dedicated, and who lived and died in Toluca, Mexico, on May 7, 1839.
Cuba seeks in Cuauhtemoc to generate greater ties of friendship, and cultural and tourist exchanges between the two peoples so intertwined in the common history and with a very promising future, the head of the General Directorate of Culture in Cuauhtemoc, Gerardo Zapata, said at a news conference.
On the other hand, Waldo Leyva, cultural attache of the Cuban embassy in Mexico, highlighted the bonds of brotherhood that unite both countries, united as said, by blood and not metaphorically speaking, but because about 22 Cuban generals and officers fought in the struggle for the Mexican independence.
With the people, with Raul and Fidel, it is always July 26th, will be the motto of the Mexican Movement of Solidarity with Cuba for the march, organized for July 27 from the Benito Juarez Chamber to the U.S. embassy in this capital, located at the Reforma Avenue.
