With the restoration of 15 stained-glass windows in the cathedral of this southern city, the Spanish company Vidrieras Barrios begins its international career, artist and glass master Enrique Barrio said today.
With the intervention in the Cathedral of Cienfuegos, our company, located in the northern Spanish city of Burgos, starts an ambitious international professional career. Its objective is to bring its knowledge, artworks, and glass restoration in different parts of the world, Barrio told Prensa Latina.
The expert described the whole Spanish stained-glass windows designed and made in mid-19th century by prestigious Paris-based Swiss master Jean Jules Gaspard Gsell (1814-1904) as a jewel of great historical and artistic importance.
That French architect became the president of the Association of Stained Glass Artists from France in 1863.
Barrio said the first international project involving the Burgos company was promoted by the bishop of the Cienfuegos-Trinidad diocese, with the collaboration of the Curator's Office of the City.
In this way and after almost four decades of management in his country, Vidrieras Barrios conveys its knowledge across the Atlantic Ocean after having restored stained-glass windows as important as the Spanish cathedrals of Burgos, Astorga and Menorca, he added.
