Members of Salvadorian organizations of solidarity gathered outside the US Embassy in this capital to demand the release of five anti-terrorist Cuban fighters unfairly held in the United States for 14 years now.
The demonstrators formed a nearly 100-meter cordon outside the embassy, carrying Cuban flags and photos of these heroes and other banners, as they sang slogans for three hours.
Members of the Salvadorian Coordinating Organization of Solidarity with Cuba and several of its committees, as well as war veterans of the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN) condemned in an open tribune the over half a century US blockade on Cuba.
Near midday, representatives of those organizations were received outside the embassy by US diplomats.
President of the Coordinating Organization, Raul Martinez, explained that the objective of the demonstration was to demand the release of the Cuban Five, who were victims of an unfair trade full of irregularities and given harsh prison sentences. Martinez wrote a letter addressed to President Barack Obama, demanding the end of this injustice against Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalezx, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino and Rene Gonzalez.
"We urge you from your position as President of the United States to exert the constitutional power of pardon in favor of these anti-terrorist Cuban fighters," said the letter.
