The 13th Peruvian Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba will begin in this city today, in the presence of Adriana Perez, wife of Gerardo Hernandez, one of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly held in the United States.
The meeting will bring together here hundreds of delegates from around the country, representatives from the Peru-Cuba solidarity groups, the Peruvian Committee of Solidarity with the Five, as Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino and Rene Gonzalez are universally known, and other social and political organizations.
Also included are Peruvian professionals graduated in Cuba, students studying on full scholarship in Cuba who are currently on vacation, and parents of those students.
Adriana Perez came here along with Ileana Alonso. Ileana's father died in the mid-flight sabotage of a Cuban airliner that killed 73 people in Barbados in October 1976.
Adriana Perez has said in many press interviews that her husband, sentenced in 2001 to double life sentences plus 15 years in prison, and his four colleagues, worked in the United States to prevent and avoid further crimes such as that of Barbados.
The solidarity meeting will be run until Sunday, August 19, and its agenda includes solidarity with the island, reject the U.S. blockade, and activities to claim freedom for the Five.
Adriana and Ileana arrived in Peru on Tuesday, where they comply with a program of meetings with figures and Peruvian organizations, as well as interviews with media.
