Alternative for Change (AC), a Nicaraguan party of deep Christian roots, decided at its Third Congress to demand the U.S. government the release of the Cuban five subjected to illegal sentences in that country.
Orlando Tardencilla, yesterday reelected as national president of AC confirmed that national leaders, departmental and municipal representatives of the organization agreed to redouble the fight in favor of The Five, as these political prisoners are internationally known.
"Our party expressed broadly and categorically its support for the Cuban people, for the family of the five heroes and demanded their immediate release," he said.
The Third National Congress of AC, held on Sunday, also confirmed the alliance with the National Convergence and particularly with the ruling Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN), according to the website El 19 Digital.
In the AC meeting, held at Israel Church in Bello Horizonte neighborhood, Managua, the group announced that it will join the FSLN in the municipal elections scheduled for November 4.
