Cuban emigrant organizations based in Miami urged other solidarity groups today to repudiate hostile U.S. policies and increase support for the five antiterrorists unjustly convicted in this country.
The Marti Alliance coalition, consisting of the Antonio Maceo Brigade and the Marti Alliance (grouping the José Martí Association, the ATC, the Bolivarian Circle of Miami and the Cuban Women's Association in Defense of the Family) signed on to the international call.
As part of the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Antonio Maceo Brigade, these groups called for a conference on the development of the political movement for the liberation of the Cuban fighters known as the Cuban Five.
Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez were arrested in 1998 and in a rigged trial in the city of Miami, Florida, sentenced to long prison terms, which included life sentences and verdicts of 19 and 15 years.
The Five, as they are known worlwide, were unjustly convicted and imprisoned for preventing acts of terrorism against the Cuban people and our families in the Caribbean nation, recalls the communication of Marti Alliance.
"Let's show our condemnation once again against this terrorist policy that has cost so many lives and suffering among our people," said the text.
The groups' conference will take place on Sunday, December 16 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Miami.
