The challenges facing today by the higher education are the issue that centers the discussions of the International Congress "Pedagogia 2013," taking place at the Havana's Conference Center.
According to spokespersons of delegations attending the meeting, which will put an end to five days of deliberations on February 8, for today is scheduled a special lecture entitled "La calidad de la Educacion Superior cubana: retos contemporaneos" (The Quality of the Cuban Higher Education: Contemporary Challenges).
That lecture will be given by Cuban Higher Education Minister Rodolfo Alarcon Ortiz, and it is expected to be a good contribution to the debate on the subject of university education.
Other activities will be carried out in the forum dedicated to higher education, "one of the 20 taking place these days, in which issues such as the formation of values in this level, the challenges of educating graduate and the link between university, business and society will be analyzed.
"Pedagogia 2013," which brings together about 3,000 delegates from more than 30 countries, also includes today a special speech by Cuban Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon, about the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly held in the United States.
The presentation will analyze details of the case of Gerardo Hernandez, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino and Rene Gonzalez, who were detained in 1998, for monitoring Miami-based terrorist groups planning actions against Cuba.
Four of them remain in prison, while Rene was obliged to stay in U.S. territory for three years, despite complying with his sentences.
There were several special speeches during yesterday's session of the forum, which is held every two years. Among them that of UNESCO Assistant Director-General Qian Tang, who discussed the need to provide young people with the tools required to enter in the labor market.
