Members of the Coordinating Committee of Solidarity with Cuba and the People demanded today the release of the five Cubans detained in 1998 in the United States, for alerting their country about terrorist plans by organizations based in that northern nation.
The activity took place at the headquarters of the Guillermo Toriello Foundation, one of the groups which form the coordinating committee. Participants in this event recalled that although Rene Gonzalez is already in his nation, he has said he will not be free until his companions Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez and Antonio Guerrero are all back in their homeland.
Assembly members from the parties Winaq (whole human being), Guatemalan National Revolutionary Unity, My Country, National Unity of Hope and All signed a letter sent to U.S. President Barack Obama.
Amilcar Pop, chief of the Winaq parliamentary group, read the letter at the headquarter of the Congress in this capital, in which the signers express their concern about the case, and said the five Cuban patriots have been unjustly imprisoned.
