Geneva Analyzes Cuban Experience in Disaster Protection
Cuba and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) analyzed in this capital ways to encourage cooperation and use the Caribbean island's experience in protecting populations affected by natural disasters.

Cuba and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) analyzed in this capital ways to encourage cooperation and use the Caribbean island's experience in protecting populations affected by natural disasters.
The issue was discussed during a meeting between the head of the National Civil Defense's Major General Jose Ramon Pardo Guerra, and IOM Deputy Director General Laura Thompson.
During the meeting, held in a cordial and mutual setting, both continued the discussions raised during Thompson's visit to Cuba in April 2012.
They also assessed the possibility of IOM experts visiting the Caribbean nation, to see and discuss firsthand Cuba's formulas for concrete cooperation and possibly apply Cuban knowledge in disaster management to the framework of this organization's mandate.
The meeting was also attended by the Cuban ambassador to international organizations based in Geneva, Anayansi Rodriguez, and other members of the mission.
Pardo Guerra is participating in the 4th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, being held here until May 23.
The Cuban civil defense system is internationally recognized as highly successful in the preservation of life and material goods, and these experiences have been shared throughout the Caribbean, an area frequently affected by hurricanes.
