A forum convened by the Cuban Foreign Ministry to discuss the role of alternative media and social networks opened on Tuesday with the participation of delegates from 12 countries.

The forum that will be in session until Wednesday at the Havana Convention Center began with the speech of the Deputy Foreign Minister Ana Teresita Gonzalez, who emphasized the importance of the issue in current policy settings and international communication.

From panel discussions, organizers hope the forum to be a space designed to share experiences and strengthen America's efforts in entering the global communication scenario.

Among those attending the forum are representatives of Bolivia, Ecuador, Nicaragua and El Salvador.
