Cuban Swimmers Leave for CentAm-Caribbean Championship

A group of swimmers that will represent Cuba at the Central American and Caribbean Championship, to be held July 1st-6 in Costa Rica, left for that country today, reported Jit Online.
The eight-member delegation returned to the tournament after several years of absence.
The greatest exponent of Cuban swimming, Hanser Garcia, will be at the 100-mt freestyle test on July 6 in preparation for the World Swimming Championships of Barcelona in August.
Garcia, an Olympic finalist in 100 mt, won a few days ago the Grand Prix of Barcelona, Spain, part of the prestigious European Mare Nostrum circuit.
Breaststroke female swimmers Daysi Ramirez and Luisa Maria Falcon will compete in 50, 100 and 200 mt in the 13-14 year-old category.
Other male athletes are Christian Ricardo (backstroke) in 50, 100 and 200 mt and 400 mt combined individual; freestyle Raul Martinez (100, 200, 400 and 1,500mt) and Juan Castillo (butterfly), all in the 13-14 year-olds.
The group also includes Alejandro Martinez (butterfly) and Armando Barrera (backstroke) in the 15-17-year old category.
The delegation is led by Alejandro Falcon, silver winning swimmer of the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, who manages swimming in Cuba., and also includes coaches Migmary Calderon and Luis Enrique Gomez.
