Cuban Parliament deputies analyzed here the Draft Law of Maritime, River and Lake Navigation, in order to regulate their general system in the country, national media reported today.
This legal proposal includes, among other things, the national maritime authority, the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transport in this area, the signs, pilotage, shipbuilding and transportation of cargo and passengers.
Parliamentarians, who spoke in favor of deepening the measures to prevent environmental pollution, described the new law as necessary in the context of updating the Cuban economic model, which repealed a group of old rules still in force.
The bill is intended to regulate the general regime of navigation in Cuba, in its territorial sea, the contiguous zone and the exclusive economic and inland waters, rivers, lakes and reservoirs.
This also provides issues related ancillary services, as well as on ships, boats and floating structures dedicated to commercial, scientific, tourism, sports and recreation purposes, and the acts and facts relating to the maritime, river and lake transport.
During the meeting, President of the National Assembly of People's Power, Esteban Lazo, stressed the importance of discussing previously with deputies every law that will be subject to the subsequent approval, according to the newspaper Granma.
Lazo also reiterated that the draft is in study and analysis, and will be presented to the National Assembly when ready.
