Cuba said today at the UN Human Rights Council that a civil war in Syria or foreign intervention would mean more destruction, would multiply the deaths and would bring serious consequences for the peoples of the Middle East.
"We reiterate our rejection to any attempt to undermine independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria" said Rodolfo Reyes, Cuba's permanent representative in Geneva.
At the nineteenth special session of the Council called "deteriorating human rights situation in the Syrian Arab Republic and the recent killings in El-Houleh", Reyes condemned U.S. and other NATO members' intentions of imposing to the Syrian people a change of government.
Consistent with the Cuban position of rejecting terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, he said: "We have condemned the attacks against that people, which have caused dozens of deaths and hundreds of injured people, but this Council has not said a single word about that".
Reyes said that Cuba expresses its solidarity with the victims and their families in the events of El-Houleh.
He reiterated that international cooperation, based on the principles of objectivity, impartiality and non selectivity, is the only way for the effective promotion and protection of all Human Rights.
