Cuba presented today before the Council of Human Rights a draft resolution on International Solidarity followed by several co-sponsors and the support of sectors of civil society.
This topic is of strategic importance these days the world over, mainly for developing countries, stated Cuban delegate Juan Antonio Quintanilla during the twenty first ordinary session of the Council of Human Rights.
He recalled these countries are the most affected by the lack of resources and technology, by devastating natural disasters, as well as by the impact of the crisis and the consequences derived from an unjust and unequal international order.
These factors in many cases limit the national will and efforts to implement plans and programs aimed at achieving comprehensive human rights.
The text we propose, he said, is aimed at continuously promoting solidarity and cooperation as essential means in the present system of international relations.
Quintanilla lamented that a minority of countries had no real will of participating in the negotiating process and limit themselves to expressing their opposition.
During this session, the Cuban delegate also presented a draft resolution to promote a democratic and equitative international order.
He affirmed that the present international order presents the major obstacle to the right to development of the peoples of the Third World.
Cuba hopes that both initiatives be approved with the support of the majority of member states of the Council, said Quintanilla.
