The General Customs of the Republic of Cuba (AGRC) informed that the import of food by passengers will be subject to customs duty again as of June 18.
The measure is in line with Decree-Law No.22 of April 16, 1979 on "Customs Duties of the Republic of Cuba for Non-Commercial Imports", according to a note from the AGRC.
It is important to say that Resolution No.11 of 2007 of the General Customs of the Republic of Cuba, in its third item establishes that foods are considered miscellanies and hence subject to customs duties.
Besides, in its item five C, it establishes the exemption of 10kg of medicines if it is brought separately from other articles, says the document posted on the AGRC website.
In 2008, as a result of damages caused by cyclones hitting Cuba and their economic and social impact, Cuban passengers, either residents or not, were allowed to import food free of charge.
