The Human Rights Council has lost credibility and there is questioning of its legitimacy, Cuba's ambassador at the international organizations based in Geneva Anayansi Rodriguez stated.
During her speech at the 2nd session of that UN body, the diplomat said that the spirit of respect and cooperation that give it hope during its creation seven years ago is still a pending task.
The Council is increasingly similar to the defunct Human Rights Commission, and has become a new inquiring court to only condemn and with increasing aggressiveness the southern countries, Rodriguez denounced.
It has also become an instrument to justify, promote, and legitimize the military interventions in the Third World, he said.
The Cuban ambassador recalled that, on the contrary, nothing is said about the human rights violations suffered by victims from "the wars against terrorism" and collateral damages, mutilations of the human rights of million displaced people by the economic crisis, especially in the industrialized world.
"Why do not they demand an international action against the Israeli genocide in Palestine?," Rodriguez wondered, adding that, however, sanctions to neighboring countries which want to demonize are requested.
The official condemned the blockade the United States has maintained against Cuba for more than 50 years, and recalled that her country had been a victim of aggression and terrorism actions promoted by the U.S. government that have killed 3,478 people and disabled 2,099.
Cuba will continue contributing so this Council channeled its independent course, and strengthen cooperation as a true way for the promotion and protection of human rights, the ambassador said.
