The first shipment of humanitarian assistance donated by the Bolivian Government to Cuba is scheduled to leave this country early today, it was reported here.
Yesterday, the Executive approved a Supreme Decree to donate 120 tons of food and water to people in eastern Cuba, hit by Hurricane Sandy last week.
Defense Minister Ruben Saavedra expressed the solidarity of the Bolivian State with countries hit by the hurricane, which caused heavy damages, particularly in Cuba, where 11 people were killed and tens of thousands of houses were damaged.
The minister said that two flights will be made with 60 tons each, and the first will leave early today from Viru Viru international airport, in eastern Santa Cruz city.
The second flight will be made in the first days of next week, he explained.
Saavedra recalled hat Cuba has always been in solidarity with Bolivia in several aspects, including the implementation of the educational program "Yes, I Can" and its second phase "Yes, I Can Go on," besides health campaigns and the training of thousands of Bolivian doctors.
