The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) repudiated today remarks made by Mexico's ex Foreign Minister Jorge Castaneda.
He said that the pro-integration bloc is trying to destroy the Inter-American Human Rights System.
In a communique, ALBA strongly rejected "the unfortunate remarks by Castaneda on occasion of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States today to discuss the funding of OAS rapporteur's offices, mainly that of freedom of speech.
In view of the position of Ecuador to reform the funding system of the rapporteur's office that deals with freedom of speech, Castaneda said that ALBA member countries plan to destroy the Inter-American Human Rights System and therefore "it must be sent to hell."
We want to remind Mr. Castaneda that resting in hell since year 2004 is the Free Trade Area of the Americas, the intended economic annexation of our nations by the US imperialism and its lackeys, says the ALBA protest note.
It was precisely ALBA, a political initiative by to giants of the 20th and 21th Centuries, Commanders Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez, backed by leaders of South American nations, which sent it to this sad destination, the text recalled.
The member countries of ALBA have highlighted the need to reform international bodies to serve the people, democratizing decision making and reducing the influence of big world powers over their decisions, said the organization.
That's why we are against the fact that the Rapporteur's Office of the Right to Freedom of Speech continues being funded by international media power o be used against progressive countries of our continent that are not in line with their imperial, despotic interests, says the communiqué.
