Activists to Debate on Campaign for Cuban 5 in USA
Several organizations of Cuban immigrants will debate on Sunday, March 31, in Miami, Florida, about the development of the movement for the immediate and unconditional release of five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly held in the United States since 1998.

Several organizations of Cuban immigrants will debate on Sunday, March 31, in Miami, Florida, about the development of the movement for the immediate and unconditional release of five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly held in the United States since 1998.
Cuban-American activist Andres Gomez said in a note that these groups, members of the Marti Alliance, will renew at the event their solidarity with Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, universally known as the Cuban Five.
Four of them are still serving severe sentences for monitoring violent sectors based in Miami, from where they planned actions like those that have killed more than 3,400 people in Cuba over the last 53 years.
Meanwhile, Rene Gonzalez was released on October 7, 2011 after completing 13 years in prison, and now has an additional punishment of three years of supervised release in that same city.
The Five were tried in Miami amidst hostile media to manipulate public opinion, persuade the jury, and ensure they were convicted, according to multiple reports. According to Gomez, the forum will be used to update about the extraordinary process of appeal of four of those fighters and also to demand their definitive release.
