Cuban doctors have 38 British Nobel Peace Prize nominations

Cuba's Henry Reeve Medical Contingent on Thursday added four new nominations for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize from British legislators, totaling 38 formal proposals submitted from the United Kingdom.

The new proposals in favor of the Cuban health workers were sent to the Norwegian Nobel Committee by Lawmakers John McDonnell, Ian Mearns, Zarah Sultana and Angus MacNeil, the Cuba Solidarity Campaign informed.

In a communique, the four parliamentarians highlighted the wonderful contribution to world health that the Henry Reeve Medical Contingent has made with its humanitarian and solidarity work in countries affected by epidemics and natural disasters, especially at times when the world is facing the Covid-19 pandemic.

In addition to 26 members of the British Parliament, including three members of the House of Lords, 12 UK academics also formally advocated for granting the Nobel Peace Prize to the Henry Reeve Contingent.

According to the rules of the Swedish Academy, nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize can only be submitted by legislators, academics, judges of the international courts of justice, award winners and active or retired members of the Committee. The deadline expires on February 1 every year.
