Salvadorian Parlm''t President Stresses Cuban Cooperation

The Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador, Siegfried Reyes, highlighted the parliamentary cooperation links and other fields between his country and Cuba.

Reyes discussed the issue during a meeting with the Caribbean nation's ambassador Pedro Pablo Prada, according to a press release from the embassy distributed today.

Reyes stressed the importance of progresses reached by both nations materialized, among other aspects, with the signing of more than 20 collaboration accords.

He cited among them the memorandum signed between the presidents of the respective legislatures in November, and the exchange of cooperation in educational, health, culture, and sports matter.

Through this bilateral cooperation, about 160,000 Salvadorans have learned to read and write with the program "Yo, si Puedo" (Yes, I can), and more than 1,000 young people have graduated from university in Cuba, he stated.

Reyes stated that the country has received the support of Cuban medical brigades to face natural phenomena that have hit the country, and donations of books for the "Presbyterian Doctor Isidro Menendez" Legislative Library, and a virtual encyclopedia about Jose Marti's work.
