Cuban delegation continues activities in the St. Petersburg Forum

The Cuban delegation led by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero continues with its program of activities in the context of the 26th Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

The work will continue in parallel at round tables, exhibitions, teleconferences, presentations, with leaders, ministers, heads of Russian and foreign companies, financiers and scientists discussing the economic problems facing Russia, developing countries and the world in general.

Marrero took part in a workshop entitled “Sovereign development as the basis of a just world,” which was held on Thursday during the opening ceremony of SPIEF.

The Prime Minister said that sovereign development must be understood as the ability to decide on the establishment of “our own roadmaps so that our economies grow for the benefit of our population.” “We conceive foreign investment as a key element for social economic development plans, tourism, agriculture, industry and other spheres. We are open to the world, open to business,” he added.

He also shared information with the forum participants about the situation in Cuba, and about the impact of climate change, the Covid-19 pandemic and the blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States.

Marrero announced that Cuba will host the summit next September of the G77+China, which “will be an opportunity to open up and provide investment facilities, Cuba is committed to the development of science and innovation, and draws the best experiences of moments of crisis,” he said.

The members of the Cuban delegation participated in various meetings and gatherings in the forum, especially in the Russia-Latin America session, where Cuba demonstrated its willingness to cooperate in the areas of biotechnology, education, tourism and health, among others.
